Dear Parents and Guardians of students in Grade Three,

We are extremely excited to begin a wonderful journey of learning together at Copperfield School. We are really looking forward to getting to know you and your child over the 2022-2023 year! We love the flexibility of having the large group and being able to break out into smaller groups as needed. Our classroom, room 128/129, is called The ThreeHouse!

September 1, 2022 Entry: Between 8:05am and the 8:15am bell time, Grade 3 students will gather at the door nearest the playground. We will be there to meet students and welcome them to their classes! Families can drop off their students at the designated space between 8:05am and 8:15am. At the 8:15am bell time, teachers will begin taking attendance and instruct students on morning entry processes. Families are asked to adhere to all parking signs, and may use the street parking along Copperstone Road and Copperfield Blvd. Please ensure that you are not parking in the bus zone, and that all road rules are followed.

DAILY PICK UP AND DROP OFF: Please choose a designated meeting area with your child that is away from the doors. Please do not use the staff parking lot to pick up or drop off your child. Families are asked to not use the school parking lot as a drop off location, as this creates an unsafe situation for students as they enter our school grounds. There is street parking available around the school field for your use as well as the hug and go zone in the mornings. If you know your child will be arriving after the bell or absent, please call 403-817-3512 or email copperfield@cbe.ab.ca to inform the office.

PERSONAL BELONGINGS: Each student should arrive with weather-appropriate outdoor clothing, indoor shoes - which are to remain at school, a water bottle (which must go home daily for cleaning), and a backpack to store snacks/lunch, library books, etc. For daily physical education and inside use, ensure your child has a pair of indoor running shoes labeled with his/her name to keep at the school. Students should be able to tie their own laces or use Velcro fasteners for safe footwear. When selecting shoes for school please keep in mind that the students will be participating in daily physical activities. Please refrain from sending toys or any unnecessary items, as they can become distractions to learning. ALL PERSONAL BELONGINGS MUST BE LABELED WITH THE CHILD’S NAME.

RECESS AND LUNCH: We will have a natural break in the mornings followed by an indoor nutrition break. Please send a healthy snack that is easy for your child to open. Staggered

lunch will occur this year. Grade 3 students will be eating their lunch in the Copper Gallery from 11:35am – 12:00pm and then going outside to play from 12:00pm – 12:25 pm. Students who go home for lunch will be dismissed at 11:35 am and expected to return by 12:25 pm. If your child is walking home for lunch with a sibling from a different grade, please contact the office to discuss possible alternative arrangements. Should your child stay for lunch, please ensure to include all necessary utensils to eat their lunch. There will not be any hot water or microwaves available. We encourage students to pack a litterless lunch to reduce waste and to help protect our environment. *Please know we are a peanut/nut aware school, as we have many students with severe allergies.*

EARLY DISMISSAL FRIDAYS: Students are dismissed on Fridays at 11:45 am. Children will still participate in regular recess and nutrition breaks; therefore, please send your child with a healthy snack.

VOLUNTEERING: We welcome volunteers in the classroom, on field trips and with certain tasks at school or at home. Certain activities or field trips would not be possible without the active participation of our volunteers. Registration for volunteering in the classroom/field trips must be done at the school office, please bring two pieces of Government I.D. (1 must be picture ID). We will reach out directly when class volunteers are required and you can watch for volunteer opportunities from the school council to support all students. Visit the CBE website for more information on volunteering, including the required registration and Police Information Check.

COMMUNICATION: This year we will be using Blogger to provide daily communication. The blog can be accessed by copying and pasting this address: https://copperfield3house.blogspot.com/
We recommend that you bookmark this, as it will be used daily. Please check it every day for important classroom information.

Email is the preferred method of communication; please feel free to reach out anytime. We can be reached at rethouin@cbe.ab.ca and ajdepner@cbe.ab.ca. We look forward to getting to know your child and your family. Here’s to an excellent year ahead!

Sincerely,

Rebecca Thouin & Angela Depner
