After a full week of having to stay inside at lunch and recess, it feels great to finally get outside to play. Please ensure that your child comes dressed for the weather including snow pants. 

In Science, we are studying different types of building materials. Today we took an in-depth look at wood, rubber, paper, cardboard, plastic, glass, wool, sponges, metal, styrofoam, tinfoil and cloth. Ask your child what they learned.

In Math, we are studying geometry. Today we used our bodies to make parallel and perpendicular lines in groups on the floor. Then we went for a parallel and perpendicular line hunt in the school hallways. See if you can find any parallel or perpendicular lines in your home with your child.

We are working on setting routines and expectations with the whole class, and it would beneficial  to discuss this at home too. Ask your child what it means to use your IMAT skills. IMAT skills are skills we use to solve problems between students. If someone is bothering you, try using your IMAT skills. I- Ignore. Ignore what the person is doing for 60 seconds. If they do not stop... M- Move away. Find a new spot to sit or play. If they follow you and the problem continues... A- Ask them to stop. They may be bothering you on purpose, or they may have thought it was a game and didn't know you didn't like it- now they know. If the problem continues... T- tell. Tell the teacher, supervisor, or other adult about the problem and they will help you solve it. Have a wonderful evening!

  Today we began our CBE Minecraft Challenge. We will be building and creating through Minecraft for Education and today we learned the basics; how to log on how to create our avatar how move around the arena how to enter creative mode how to access our inventory how to place and mine, build and destroy how to change settings Ask your child what they built today!  We will be using it in class throughout the year. Minecraft: Education Edition can also be installed and used at home if you choose, totally optional. It is a free download and instructions are available at this link:  Installation instructions for Minecraft: Education Edition Your child's login information is their student id number in this format: studentid@edu.cbe.ab.ca, and their password is the regular password they use to login to Google.  Example: 100018342@edu.cbe.ab.ca John123!  Today we finished our models of the human ear! They look fantastic. Ask your child to explain how the ear works using the model they bring home today. We had a spelling quiz that covered many of the words we have been familiarizing ourselves with over the last few weeks, either through curricular activities, word work, or the word of the day. Some students spelled all ten words correctly, but many need more practice. If you're a fan of spelling homework, give these words a shot: should, volume, friend, quiet, said, because, write, could, sound, went. Enjoy the sunshine!
